What do Melbourne Storm superstar Cameron Munster, Big Bash master blaster Chris Lynn and a 90-year-old grandmother have in common?

They all own a share in ex-Victorian It’sourtime and will be watching intently when the seven-year-old races in the $750,000 King Of The Mountain slot race in Toowoomba on Friday.

Tamworth-based horse ownership firm Luke Berger Racing and Moree owner-breeder Danny Bourke bought a stake in It’sourtime just 48 hours before his victory in the Group 3 Standish Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on January 11 when he was with Melbourne Cup-winning trainer Danny O’Brien.

They later sold shares in the gelding to an eclectic list of owners that includes Munster, Lynn, New Zealand Warriors forward Kurt Capewell and Berger’s grandma Val.

Cricket’s Twenty20 champion batsman Lynn happens to be great mates with It’sourtime’s rider Les “Bubba” Tilley.

Lynn will make the drive from Brisbane up the Toowoomba range to be trackside on Friday to cheer the horse on.

“I’m speaking at a lunch in Brisbane on Friday and as soon as I’ve done that, I will be straight up the highway heading to Toowoomba to watch the race,” Lynn said.

“I’m pumped about it. It’s good prizemoney ($350,000 for the winner) and we have got a good barrier draw (two).

“Bubba Tilley came third in this race last year (on Master Jamie, in the race won by Rothfire).

“Hopefully he can win it this year.”

It’sourtime, now under the guidance of Toowoomba trainer Pat Webster, is a $9 chance with TAB for the King Of The Mountain, behind warm favourite Cifrado ($3.50), Rockhampton rocket Chinny Boom ($5) and last year’s runner-up Steady Ready ($6).

“I’ve followed him for his entire career,” former thoroughbred trainer Berger said of the southern raider.

“We had a throw at the stumps and got it right. We just thought it was a good opportunity to get people involved in a horse that’s going to race at a Group level.

“He’d won something like $1.1m before we got him. We just thought he was a cracking horse.

“When we found out how sound he was and the prospect that he can keep racing for another few years at least, we thought we’d have a crack.

“We’ve got a heap of people involved in him now and with all the syndicates and individuals that have jumped in, we’re up around 40 people.”

Webster took charge of It’sourtime just 12 days after the sprinter finished ninth out of 15 runners in the $1.5m Group 1 Newmarket at Flemington, won by Joliestar on March 8.

He will contest the $1m The Archer slot race (1300m) in Rockhampton on April 27 and then likely the $1.5m Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1200m) on May 17.

“We’re probably more concerned about the tightness of the track rather than the direction,” Berger said about the King Of The Mountain race at Clifford Park.

“He’s a horse that seems to appreciate a long straight and wide-open spaces.

“We think The Archer, with the big track at Rocky, profiles better for him.”
