BARAQIEL (R8 No.2 – $2.80)

Baraqiel wasn’t beaten far in the Group 1 VRC Sprint Classic on the final day of the Flemington carnival. The start before he thrashed his rivals by 2¾ lengths in the Group 2 McEwen Stakes. He has won six of nine starts, with those three defeats all coming down the Flemington straight.

Romani Ite Domum has led all the way to win his past two starts after a luckless debut where he was caught three-wide. He was still quick enough to win over 1100m last time after dropping back from 1300m, so the 1200m here is ideal, and will take plenty of catching again.

GLOBE (R9 No.11 – $6)

Globe has had two runs this prep to build his fitness for his third-up assignment in the Cranbourne Cup. Last start at Flemington he beat all but Light Infantry Man, who is second favourite in the Group 1 Railway Guineas in Perth. He’ll go forward again and will be hard to run down.
