‘I think this filly is a good horse’: Blueblood filly excites Waller

Shayno: Welcome back Mitchy. Are you a first-up’er or will you need a few runs before you hit your best stride?

Mitch: Thanks Shayno! I had a barrier trial at Randwick Kensington on Wednesday so reckon I should be good to go. I’ve got to say, this Sydney jockeys’ premiership battle has made it a good time to be back on deck too.

Shayno: I really thought Nash was a big chance but I think Ciaron Maher has stepped up and probably put J-Mac over the line. Case in point, I love Charterhouse in the Winter Challenge so long as he doesn’t get too far back.

Mitch: I found the Winter Challenge a challenging affair but landed on King Of The Castle. With more luck, he goes close to winning that Winter Stakes last start and should get every chance this time from a perfect draw.

Shayno: The French mare Sivka Burka has drawn wide, has top weight and is giving away race-fitness to her rivals in the Schweppes Handicap but I fancy her class might get her home. Gee, she trialled well.

Mitch: Reckon she’s one of the more intriguing gallopers on the program. I’ve got her in the numbers but tipping it might be just short of her best. I’ll stick with the form filly – In Flight. She’s on the back up but Joe Pride has her flying. She wins again for mine.

Shayno: Another week, another fantastic two-year-old race. Reckon we might see a few of these next season and beyond in some pretty big races – Exhibit A being Sensational Wind, the $1.1 million yearling and daughter of Gust Of Wind.

J-Mac, Nash title fight ends up in stewards’ room

Mitch: Mayfair was a beaten favourite first up on a heavy 9 surface but wasn’t far away. He strips fitter her second up, goes straight to the front and will take running down.

Shayno: This is a cracking Highway. Zarizatycoon, Tags’ brother, is a hulk Mitchy and doing it all on raw ability. Reckon he’s got Country Champs written all over him. Who do you like?

Mitch: Lonhro’s Queen won well last start and I am warming to her going back-to-back here. With that said, I say that without much confidence.

Shayno: One other horse that I am expecting to Black Book for the spring is Carrazana from the Waller camp. He’s got that little something!

Mitch: Have something on Danaustar second-up in the penultimate event.
