Kyle Wilson-Taylor watched on from Eagle Farm as Craig Williams scooted away with The Kosciuszko aboard Far Too Easy last month.

On Saturday, Wilson-Taylor gets the chance to collect his first winner’s cheque aboard the popular sprinter when he rides him in The Hunter at Newcastle.

Wilson-Taylor has done most of the legwork aboard Far Too Easy, but remarkably has never won on the horse, who has cheated death and survived deadly floods in a career plagued by bad luck.

The $1m The Hunter (1300m) gives Wilson-Taylor the chance to land the biggest payday of his career and he said Robbie Dolan’s Melbourne Cup triumph last week only reinforced his decision to fly down to ride horses in big races when opportunities presented.

“When you get those opportunities, you have to go down and ride these horses, the Melbourne Cup shows that — you never know what can come of them,” Wilson-Taylor said.

“I was at Eagle Farm when he won the Kosciuszko and I was cheering him on, I was happy for (trainer) Dave (McColm) and the team.

“I have ridden the horse plenty of times, but I haven’t won on him, so I’m hoping we break our duck together on Saturday.

“I have a good connection with Dave, I’m assuming Craig (Williams) is in Victoria because he’s not able to ride him this time around.”

Far Too Easy is renowned for coming into his own on wet tracks and a favourable weather forecast in Newcastle throughout the week looks set to play right into his hands.

The Murwillumbah-trained galloper broke through in The Kosciuszko in his third attempt on Everest Day last month and as a Magic Millions graduate, could potentially target the Queensland summer carnival.

“He finally got the conditions, the gate and everything in his favour that day, so it was D-Day in a sense for him in The Kosciuszko,” Wilson-Taylor said.

“I have done a bit of work, I know the horse well and if he gets the conditions and a gate, he will be hard to beat.

“They have put a lot of hard work into him.”

Far Too Easy is a $5 favourite in all in markets for The Hunter.
