Ladbrokes Racing Club has enlisted emerging sprinter Moby Dick for the inaugural $1 million The Meteorite on Saturday at Cranbourne.

The Mick Price and Michael Kent (Jnr)-trained four-year-old son of Toronado has won three of his eight starts including a slashing Flemington victory over subsequent Group 2 winner Baraqiel, arguably the horse to beat in Victoria’s first slot race on Cranbourne Cup Day.

Moby Dick has been luckless the past two starts at Geelong and Flemington, held up at crucial stages in respective races.

“He’s a horse with tremendous potential,” Kent (Jnr) said.

“We’ve seen flashes of his ability and this is a great chance for him to step up in a significant race.

“We’re excited to see him take on this level of competition and he’s ready to give it his best.”

Moby Dick will carry the Ladbrokes Racing Club’s red, white sash, sleeves with red cuffs, cap with a red peak colours in The Meteorite as part of the deal with managing owner Rupert Legh.

Ladbrokes Racing Club general manager Ryan Stanaway shared his excitement about securing Moby Dick for The Meteorite.

“It’s fantastic to team up with Rupert Legh and Price and Kent (Jnr) Racing to bring Moby Dick into The Meteorite,” Stanaway said.

“Despite Moby Dick having fewer runs than some of his top-flight rivals, his performance at Flemington proves he’s ready for the spotlight.”

The Ladbrokes Racing Club, which launched in February last year, has given more than 30,000 members the unique opportunity to experience the thrill of ownership across thoroughbreds, harness, and greyhound racing without the expense.

Moby Dick is the second Price and Kent (Jnr)-trained sprinter to secure a start in The Meteorite after slot-holder Carl Holt recruited Robrick to run in the 1200m feature.
