Jockey Justin Huxtable’s career hangs in the balance after he was arrested and charged by police in North Queensland on Friday following a complaint from a young female.

Huxtable, 24, was arrested after the races at Innisfail on Friday and immediately stood down from riding by stewards after being charged under section 227A of the Queensland Criminal Code, recording in breach of privacy.

The act states it is illegal for a person who observes or visually records another person, in circumstances where a reasonable adult would expect to be afforded privacy.

Queensland Racing Integrity Commission commissioner Catherine Clark confirmed his jockeys license has been suspended as a result of the charges.

“QRIC’s role is to maintain the integrity of racing so the jockey will be stood down from all further racing related activities until further notice,” she said.

Huxtable has been served a show cause notice by QRIC as to why he should be allowed to ride, where he has until Friday to respond.

Racenet understands he has engaged legal representation over the matter.

The alleged incident is understood to have occurred in Cairns earlier this year, around the Cairns Cup carnival.

He will front the Cairns Magistrates Court on November 18 over the matter.

Huxtable was booked to ride at Townsville on Saturday, however was forced to forgo his rides.

The maximum penalty for the offence carries three years in prison.

The Brisbane-based jockey has ridden 419 winners in his career to date and had become a regular fly-in, fly-out jockey to North Queensland lately.

The South Australian-born jockey was crowned Queensland Apprentice of the Year in 2020-2021.
