Hopes of star jockey Jamie Kah heading home to continue her recovery from a head injury have increased in recent days.
Kah sustained a heavy concussion after falling from Flyball in the VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes at Flemington on March 11, leaving her heavily sedated in hospital before her transfer to a rehabilitation facility.

Kah’s partner, fellow jockey Ben Melham, said the champion jockey has shown positive signs in her recovery from the head trauma.
“The last couple of days I’ve seen significant improvement in her,” Melham told RSN927.
“The last couple of days have been really good,” he said.
“She’s just taking the necessary steps on the doctors’ advice.
Melham said Kah hadn’t quite been the model patient as she tried to stay in touch with racing while sidelined.
“She’s supposed to be resting and not watching too much television and she’s getting very frustrated,” Melham said.
“She’s an outdoors type of person and she’s locked up in her room doing her rehab.
“She’s been sneaking the Racing.com channel on and been getting into a little bit of trouble for that because she won’t turn it off.”
While Kah has shown signs of improvement, Melham said returning to racing was not a consideration at this early stage.
Melham said the next step would be for Kah to return home to begin the next phase of her recovery under medical supervision.
“I can tell you she is certainly looking forward to getting home and that is hopefully shortly – hopefully,” Melham said.
“There are no time limits on it. With brain injuries, they are all different the way people recover at different times.
“That (getting back to riding) is not even a concern at the minute. The concern at the moment is getting her back to full health and reassessing.
“Day by day, step by step. She’ll be ready when she is ready.”
