Herald Sun form analyst Brad Waters takes an early look at Saturday’s Feehan Stakes meeting at The Valley.
BEST BET
MILITARY EXPERT (Race 8, No.6)
Raced on the speed and fought on well to score at Caulfield first-up. That style of racing will take him a long way with only 54kg on his back at The Valley.
VALUE BET
AGE OF CHIVALRY (Race 7, No.6)
Age Of Chivalry resumes for a new stable on Saturday and his first-up record is solid. He’s drawn to have every chance and rates a great each-way chance fresh.

RACE 1: 12:30PM LADBROKES HANDICAP (1500m)
The first race at The Valley is a tricky contest with only seven runners after a scratching. RED SUN SENSATION (5) strode out well to score at Geelong second-up and should thrive over the longer trip. Her stablemate ELEGANT DIVA (7) made an impressive start to her career and should relish the 1500m. CASTILLIAN (1) is racing in great heart and should be around the mark again. MAJOR BEEL (2) will push forward and in this for a long way.
SUGGESTED BET: Red Sun Sensation to win
TAB MARKET MOVER: Big Story $5.50 – $4.40
RACE 2: 1:05PM POWERFLO SOLUTIONS HANDICAP (2040m)
HARMYSIAN (2) looks to have come back to racing in good form this time in and will be ready for the step to 2040m after a dominant win over 1800m at Sandown. A 7.5kg weight drop will help. MIDNIGHT BLUE (1) was sound when resuming in an on-pacers’ race at Caulfield and will be fitter. IRISH FLAME (3) led and fought on well in a small field last time and usually races well at The Valley. PRIX DE TURN (8) gave too much start but did his best work first-up and he won the Group Alister Clark Stakes over this course as a three-year-old.
SUGGESTED BET: Harmysian each-way
TAB MARKET MOVER: Irish Flame $8 – $6
RACE 3: 1:40PM INGLIS READY2RACE SALE OCTOBER 11 PLATE (1200m)
MILLANE (2) was run off his legs a touch but did his best work late when resuming in the Group 3 Vain Stakes. A class drop and another 100m will be perfect for him second-up. SHALAMAN (4) led and was only nabbed on the line at Listed level last time and will be hard to beat again. AMENABLE (8) resumes here but was an impressive winner at his only run last time in. SEBONACK (1) wasn’t far away in Sydney first-up and has drawn to have every chance.
SUGGESTED BET: Millane to win.
TAB MARKET MOVER: Shalaman $4.20 – $3.80
RACE 4: 2:15PM CLAMMS SEAFOOD FEEHAN STAKES (1600m)
Really like how EARLSWOOD (4) is shaping up in Australia. He showed plenty of fight to score first-up on hard ground at Caulfield last time in and has had plenty of time to acclimatise. He’ll relish softer ground this time in. MR BRIGHTSIDE (1) will be the hardest to beat with the extra fitness after his Lawrence Stakes win. SPANISH MISSION (1) was scratched from a race at Caulfield last Saturday and ran well first-up last time in. SOUND (3) wasn’t far away in this race first-up last year and can find a spot in the exotics.
SUGGESTED BET: Earlswood to win.
TAB MARKET MOVER: Earlswood $6.50 – $4.20
RACE 5: 2:55PM MITTY’S MCEWEN STAKES (1000m)
Only seven runners but there’s a few chances in the McEwen Stakes. Settled on IN THE CONGO (2) after his impressive effort in Group 1 company last tie in and his two Sydney trials have been terrific. COOLANGATTA (7) resumes against the older horses here but she’ll be hard to run down. SEMILLION (6) will be much fitter for his first-up effort and softer conditions could produce improvement. ZOUSTYLE (4) has the quality to be thereabouts fresh.
SUGGESTED BET: In The Congo to win.
TAB MARKET MOVER: Rothfire $8 – $6.50
RACE 6: 3:35PM MUSK CREEK FARM ATLANTIC JEWEL STAKES (1200m)
Bigger field of fillies for another of the day’s features but LADY LAGUNA (4) looks one of the main chances with the extra fitness gained from her honest on-pace effort first-up. I’MLOVIN’YA (3) worked home well when not far away in the Quezette Stakes first-up and she won at stakes level second-up last prep. BOOGIE DANCER (5) has been freshened for this but she was flying before a short break. PORTRAY (13) showed her ability in two comfortable wins in May and should measure up here.
SUGGESTED BET: Lady Laguna to win
TAB MARKET MOVER: Lady Laguna $8.50 – $6
RACE 7: 4:15PM STRATHMORE COMMUNITY BENDIGO BANK CHAUTAUQUA STAKES (1200M)
AGE OF CHIVALRY (6) could produce a result on debut for the Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr camp. He’s rarely far away first-up and his two Cranbourne jumpouts indicate a forward showing is likely. SINAWANN (1) worked home OK when resuming at Caulfield but his second-up record is terrific. RANGES (4) was no match for the smart Uncommon James at Caulfield and he’ll run well again in this. CORNER POCKET (7) has a great record and is unbeaten at The Valley.
SUGGESTED BET: Age Of Chivalry each-way.
TAB MARKET MOVER: Ranges $10 – $8
RACE 8: 4:50PM DRUMMOND GOLF HANDICAP (1600m)
Happy to back MILITARY EXPERT (6) to win again after his game first-up win at Caulfield last time out. He’ll push forward again and will be hard to run down with only 54kg. DARK DREAM (2) steadily worked up to winning form last time in but has had more time to settle into Lindsay Park. UNCLE BRYN (5) chased well in the Lawrence Stakes and will be much fitter for that. SO SI BON (3) led and tried hard at Caulfield and a similar showing is likely here.
SUGGESTED BET: Military Expert to win
TAB MARKET MOVER: Uncle Bryn $3 – $2.40
RACE 9: 5:25PM PFD FOOD SERVICES HANDICAP (1600m)
Tough race to finish but ATTRACTABLE (10) looks ready for this longer trip after a good effort at his second 1200m run this time in. UNANIMOUS (7) hasn’t been far away but he’ll find this a bit easier than his first two runs this time in. PASSIONE (14) raced handy and was no match at Caulfield but can bounce back if ridden further back from the awkward gate. GLOBAL GIFT (3) is hard-fit and racing consistently.
SUGGESTED BET: Attractable to win.
TAB MARKET MOVER: Global Gift $9 – $7.50
