IT'S become the anthem synonomous with Australian football, but the most patriotic rendition of Daryl Braithwaite’s Horses may have been sung by a bunch of Socceroos fans in Russia.

IT'S become the anthem synonymous with Australian football, but it's most patriotic rendition may have been sung by a bunch of Socceroos fans in Russia.

Adopted to Melbourne Victory fans, and famously belted out by former Mariners boss Paul Okon in the dressing room, it doesn't get much more Aussie than Daryl Braithwaite's smash hit Horses.

And the music icon was on hand in the Russian city of Kazan to perform his smash hit during a performance for a couple of hundred people at Fanatics pre-game event on the eve of the Socceroos huge World Cup opener against France.

He didn't stop there. At the crowd's request, the 69-year-old singer even did a 'shoey'. Drinking a beer out of a shoe, for those unfamiliar with the term.

There was no shortage of star power in the crowded theatre, with tour hosts and former Socceroos Stan Lazaridis and Alex Tobin joined by FFA honchos David Gallop and Stephen Lowy.

Gallop looked to be enjoying himself, only too happy to pose for selfies with Australian fans.
