When can Liverpool win the English Premier League title now?

A 4-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace has left the Reds perilously close to their first title in 30 years. Here’s exactly when they can lift the trophy.

Liverpool are still within touching distance of a first top-flight title in 30 years but when could they actually be crowned champions?

Manchester City kicked off with a 3-0 win over Arsenal last week, before Jurgen Klopp’s side had to settle for a point in Sunday’s goalless Merseyside derby before bouncing back with a thumping 4-0 victory at home to Crystal Palace on Thursday morning.

Trent Alexander-Arnold curled in a free kick to start the rout against Palace and Mohamed Salah swept in the second before half time from Fabinho’s dinked ball.

Fabinho powered in the third from distance in the 55th minute and Sadio Mane raced onto Salah’s throughball to complete a counter-attack in the 69th to make it 16 wins in 16 home games in the league this season.

The victory moved Liverpool 23 points ahead of City with seven games remaining of a campaign that will end without any fans in the stadium to celebrate the Reds’ first championship triumph since 1990.

“We’ve waited a long time for this and we’ve worked hard for this over the last few years as a team,” Salah said. “As a club this is what we’ve dreamt of and we’re in a good position, so hopefully we’ll be able to get it across the line very soon.”

WHEN CAN THEY WIN THE TITLE?

Liverpool still need two points to secure the title after their Palace win.

Man City’s win over Burnley means the runaway Premier League table leaders need Chelsea to do them a favour and earn at least a point against City on Friday to be crowned champions.

If City don’t win at Chelsea, then it’s all over and Liverpool will be crowned champions.

But if they do, we’re in for a head-to-head showdown when Liverpool travel to Manchester City on Thursday, July 2 live on Sky Sports Premier League.

In that scenario, Liverpool would need just a point against City at the Etihad to win the league.

If Liverpool were to then lose at City then they could finally lift the championship with a victory at home to Aston Villa on Sunday July 5. Were Liverpool to only draw then they could still win the title if City failed to beat Southampton.

WHAT RECORDS COULD THEY BREAK?

The points record of 100 (City 2017/18) could be smashed. Liverpool will have 107 points if they win every remaining game.

The biggest points gap between first and second is 19 points (City 2017/18) – the gap now is 20. City need to better Liverpool’s results between now and the end of the season by two points to protect that record.

Liverpool need five wins from their final seven games to beat the win record of 32 (City 2017/18).
