There’s more drama than a high school breakup heading into the final day of the Premier League this Sunday night (Monday 1:30am AEST), as every team kicks off their last game of the season at the same time all across the country.
Manchester City are EPL champions for the third consecutive season, with Arsenal, Newcastle and Manchester United rounding out the top four and qualifying for the Champions League.
Liverpool will be fifth and Brighton in sixth for the two Europa League spots.
The relegation fight is what takes centre stage, with the battle between Everton, Leicester City and Leeds hitting its final crescendo as two of those three teams will be plying their trade in the Championship next season.
Before we break all 10 games down, these are the scenarios that lie ahead of us for the relegation battle.
- 17th: Everton (33 pts, -24 GD)
- 18th: Leicester City (31 pts, -18 GD)
- 19th: Leeds United (31 pts, -27 GD)
Leicester City - a team that was champion of the EPL just seven years ago and a team that has never been relegated - could find themselves in the second tier of English football next year.
It seems unfathomable. But here we are.
In a nightmare situation, both Everton and Leicester City could go down if Leeds pull off a miracle and beat Tottenham.
It seems almost cruel that all three teams play at home too.
So, how does each survive?
For Everton, a win against Bournemouth keeps them up and seals the fate of Leicester and Leeds regardless of their results. Even if the Toffees lose or draw, they can stay up if both Leicester and Leeds draw or lose their games.
Leicester must win against West Ham to have any chance of staying up: thanks to their superior goal differential they will stay up even if Everton draws against Bournemouth.
Leeds need results to go their way to stay up. Firstly they must win over Tottenham and Everton lose, as well as a Leicester post a loss or draw.
EPL FINAL DAY TIPS AND SELECTIONS
EVERTON: $1.44
DRAW: $4.50
BOURNEMOUTH: $7
Bournemouth have lost its last three since they ensured their survival for another season but have beaten Everton twice this season. The atmosphere for this will be at a fever pitch as the Toffees have a shocking record as of late, losing their past five at home when being a betting favourite.
Bournemouth - who have won five games away this season - will be up for this.
- THE VERDICT: DRAW
LEICESTER CITY: $1.91
DRAW: $3.90
WEST HAM UNITED: $3.60
Leicester City must win at all costs to give themselves a chance at staying in the EPL. Unfortunately this is a team that has won one game in its past 15 and run into a West Ham team who, despite having nothing to play for, have won four of its last five matches and do have a Europa Conference League final to play in a few weeks time.
Leicester got very lucky midweek against Newcastle, with big Harry Souttar hopefully in the starting line-up for the Foxes he can repel the Declan Rice-led West Ham.
- THE VERDICT: LEICESTER CITY
LEEDS UNITED: $2.72
DRAW: $3.80
TOTTENHAM: $2.40
(odds via TopSport & Ladbrokes)
The odds for this are fascinating: Leeds have been awful all season and Tottenham, well, Spurs are just lucky that Chelsea have been insipid this season.
All metrics say Tottenham should win this (and potentially qualify for the Conference League), but their recent form of 1-1-5 across the last seven will give Leeds and their fans hope of staying up.
This is the upset: Leeds win but get their hearts broken with results going against them.
- THE VERDICT: LEEDS UNITED
Taking the above into consideration, Everton and Leeds are the teams to be relegated this season for us at CODE Bet.
But it’s sure to be a gripping morning of action.
Let’s look at the remaining seven games.
SOUTHAMPTON: $7
DRAW: $5.40
LIVERPOOL: $1.40
Southampton are already relegated and Liverpool are going to finish with Europa League qualification.
Bobby Firmino plays his last game for Liverpool in what is sure to be an emotional day. Southampton look broken and Liverpool could run riot and end the season with a big win.
- THE VERDICT: LIVERPOOL AND OVER 4.5 GOALS: $3.75 (via Ladbrokes)
ASTON VILLA: $2.01
DRAW: $3.85
BRIGHTON: $3.50
Two of the surprise teams this season in Aston Villa and Brighton finish their season at Villa Park. Brighton have already qualified for the Europa League and have nothing to play for after the draw with Manchester City midweek.
Villa have to win to guarantee their Europa Conference League spot. That alone should see Villa win at home in an entertaining game.
- THE VERDICT: ASTON VILLA AND OVER 2.5 GOALS $2.70 (via Ladbrokes)
CRYSTAL PALACE: $1.70
DRAW: $4.10
NOTTINGHAM FOREST: $4.75
(odds via TopSport & Ladbrokes)
Notts. guaranteed survival with its win last week and have nothing to play for, as do Crystal Palace.
Notts are the worst travelling side in the EPL this year with a 1-4-13 record and that should be why Crystal Palace win in what could be Wilfred Zaha’s last game for the Eagles.
- THE VERDICT: CRYSTAL PALACE
MANCHESTER UNITED: $1.50
DRAW: $4.60
FULHAM: $6
United are unbeaten in its last 26 games at Old Trafford and routed Chelsea 4-1 on Friday morning.
This game will be used as a tune-up match for Erik Ten Hag and his men as they get ready for the FA Cup Final against Manchester City at Wembley.
Fulham have been good this season, but have not won a game against United across all competitions since 2009.
- THE VERDICT: MANCHESTER UNITED
CHELSEA: $2.88
DRAW: $3.50
NEWCASTLE: $2.40
This is a cause for celebration. For Chelsea fans that their season is over and the misery is done. For Newcastle and its fans, that they will be playing Champions League football next season.
Chelsea was walloped on Friday morning and have now only won one game from its last 13 across all competitions.
Newcastle with Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak upfront, will bring one last 90 minute session of pain for the fans at Stamford Bridge.
- THE VERDICT: NEWCASTLE
ARSENAL: $1.36
DRAW: $5.60
WOLVES: $8
(odds via TopSport & Ladbrokes)
Arsenal will finish in second spot in what has been an awesome season for the Gunners. For Arsenal and its fans it is all about the transactions that can be made in the offseason and challenging City next year.
Gunners have won its past 11 final day matches and in what looks to be a final game for Granit Xhaka and potentially both Thomas Partey and Kieran Tierney, the Gunners should celebrate three great club servants with a big win over Wolves who have looked disinterested in the past month.
- THE VERDICT: ARSENAL AND OVER 3.5 GOALS: $2.70 (odds via Ladbrokes)
BRENTFORD: $3.90
DRAW: $4
MANCHESTER CITY: $1.83
(odds via TopSport & Ladbrokes)
City are in party mode and have taken the foot off the gas in the last week. They played perfect football for a 10 week stretch and showed why they are the best team in England, which in a few weeks should extend to Europe with a win in the Champions League final.
Pep Guardiola may choose to rest some of his stars with the Champions League final and FA Cup final still to come.
Brentford have only lost two games at home all season and were phenomenal last week in dispatching Tottenham 3-1 even without striker Ivan Toney. They will give City a huge fright here.
- THE VERDICT: BRENTFORD OR DRAW: $1.91 (via Ladbrokes)
