Sam Kerr has confirmed she has re-signed with Chelsea but not before a slight sidestep in a different direction from the club on social media, fooling many.

After joining Chelsea midway through the 2019/20 Women’s Super League (WSL) season, the club confirmed the Matildas’ super star had signed a contract extension until 2026 and she would continue her rehabilitation recovery from an ACL injury.

However, prior to the confirmation, there was a bizarre tweet released by Chelsea featuring Kerr appearing to farewell the Blues recalling how much the club meant to the 30-year-old Australian.

“After four years it is really hard to sum up how I feel,” Kerr said appearing very emotional. “My time at Chelsea has been unforgettable.”

Then in April’s fools type moment and following post 20 minutes later allayed any fans’ fears they would be losing their star striker.

“It’s really exciting and a very proud moment for me,” Kerr said.

“Having the opportunity to stay at a club like Chelsea means a lot to me. I’m really excited to continue to push and to try to win trophies.”

During the 2022/23 season, Kerr netted 29 goals in 38 appearances in all competitions on the way to another WSL and FA Cup double. She made her 100th Blues appearance in our FA Cup fifth round victory over Arsenal in February and netted the winner in the FA Cup final at Wembley in May 2023.
