MANCHESTER City have sent out Socceroo Aaron Mooy on a season-long loan to Championship club Huddersfield Town.

Mooy sealed a move to the English Premier League giants last Thursday, joining on a four-year deal from sister club Melbourne City and staying underneath the City Football Group (CFG) umbrella.

It’s understood the 25-year-old’s contract is worth around AU$4 million a year and lasts until 2020, setting the Socceroo up for life.

But he was always likely to be sent out on loan by new City boss Pep Guardiola, and so it has proved.

“I’m delighted to join Huddersfield Town Football Club, ahead of what I’m sure will be a really

exciting season and I can’t wait to get started,” Mooy said in a statement. “The Championship is a really tough competition and provides me with a good challenge for the next stage of my career.”

“I’m looking forward to meeting my new teammates and to working with the boss David Wagner.

“Huddersfield are a progressive club and are an ideal fit for me to achieve my goals for the coming year.”

Mooy made 102 A-League appearances with both Western Sydney and Melbourne City, and has

cemented his place in the Socceroos team with 16 caps and 5 goals to his credit since 2013.

He had scored 11 goals and had 21 assists last season for Melbourne City, setting a new A-League record.

Mooy’s agent, Paddy Dominguez, is happy with the next step of his client.

“Aaron’s loan deal to Huddersfield is a great next step for Aaron,” he said in a statement. “Every decision Aaron has made has been strategically planned with a view to him having a good opportunity to get a lot of games and work with the right coach.

“David Wagner has done brilliant work with Jurgen Klopp at Borussia Dortmund and is exactly the kind of coach that will help Aaron progress his game to the next level, which will be of great benefit to Australia and Huddersfield.”

The move is a return for Mooy to Europe having spent time previously with St Mirren and Bolton Wanderers between 2009-2012.
