TO CAP off a massive eight days of football in Australia, English giant Liverpool is also headed down under this week for matches against Brisbane Roar and Adelaide United.

On the back of more than 95,000 people flocking to the MCG two years ago to see the Reds take on Melbourne Victory, Brendan Rodgers’ men will play before sellout crowds at Suncorp Stadium on Friday and the Adelaide Oval the following Monday.

Socceroos commitments robbed Archie Thompson of the opportunity to play in Victory’s historic 2013 encounter, but the striker said he is pumped to be a part of this Liverpool tour — albeit as an expert commentator for Channel 9.

“The mark that game left on football fans, they’re still talking about it today,” Thompson said.

“I’m disappointed I missed it because I would have loved to have been a part of that “You’ll Never Walk Alone” rendition, Harry (Kewell) has told me all about it from when he played at Anfield.

“That was a benchmark and just makes it that more exciting for Brisbane and Adelaide.

“I’d love to be out there on the pitch and playing against these guys, but it’s great that some of the younger A-League players get the opportunity to get out there and have a taste of it.

“It’s going to be amazing for the supporters, especially those diehards who might not get the opportunity to go over to Europe to watch these guys play.

“It’s win-win for everyone.”

Gold Coast locals will also be treated to a glamour friendly on Saturday when fellow English giant Manchester City warms up for the International Champions Cup with a clash with sister club Melbourne City at Cbus Super Stadium.
