Matildas super striker Sam Kerr has hinted her return to the pitch is imminent after spending close to 12 months sidelined with a knee injury.
The Chelsea star ruptured her ACL in January and has made no secret of the fact she is taking her rehab slowly.
Talking on BBC’s Women’s Football Weekly podcast this week Kerr said she had a “little bit more going on than an ACL” but didn’t elaborate any further.
“I feel good, I feel strong, I feel healthy and my mind feels good, so I’m in a good place,” she said.
Kerr has hinted on social media that her return may be close.
She shared a post of some of her favourite moments at Chelsea with the caption “five years with Chelsea, be back soon”
Teammates and fans flooded the post with comments, Matildas goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold writing “can’t wait”.
Kerr’s return is sure to be spectacular with the striker sitting on 99 goals for Chelsea.
There is speculation the star could return in December 16 following the international break for the game against Leicester or January 20 against West Ham.
Several of her other Matildas teammates have returned from the same injury in a shorter 9-10 months timeframe, like defender Ellie Carpenter.
But after missing the Olympics and with no major international tournament on the line Kerr is taking time to ensure her body is properly ready before making her comeback.
It’s a process interim Matildas coach Tom Sermanni confirmed and supported in the lead-up to the last international window.
The Matildas team for their upcoming games against Brazil and Chinese Taipei is due to be announced on Friday.
