Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham secure back-to-back Premier League wins

With Tottenham’s injury crisis easing, Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou is optimistic about what his team can still achieve this season.

Ange Postecoglou is confident his Tottenham side can make Premier League “inroads”, warning rival clubs they will face similar injury problems that have plagued Spurs in recent months.

Postecoglou’s men secured a much-needed 1-0 home win over Manchester United on Monday morning (AEST), with fit-again star James Maddison scoring the game’s only goal in the 13th minute.

It was Spurs’ second successive Premier League win and lifted them to 12th on the ladder.

“It signals a little bit of an opportunity for us to push on from here,” said Postecoglou, who with a host of players returning from injuries was confident Tottenham could continue to move up the table and taste Europa League success.

“I certainly believe there is still a hell of a lot on offer for us (in) this back-half of the (season).

“Europe is the obvious one, but even in the league I think we could make inroads there.

“We’re not happy with where we are. It’s unacceptable that we’re in the position we are, but the circumstances have dictated that to a great extent.”

And those injury-related “circumstances” won’t be just confined to Spurs, according to Postecoglou.

“What’s happened to us is going to happen to other clubs – it’s coming,” the former Socceroos coach said.

“People think I’ve been making excuses all along … but trust me, other clubs will feel that as well. It’s only mid-February. There’s a fair way to go.”

It’s why Postecoglou had little sympathy for Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim, whose bench against Spurs was packed with teenagers due to 12 players being unavailable for selection.

“If I check my office, I don’t have any sympathy cards from other managers,” the former Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory coach said.

“I could see Ruben there (with) players out of position, kids on the bench – well, welcome to my world.

“That’s for one game, now do that for two months. Any club, do that for two months.”
