Robbie Slater thinks Sydney FC could beat an A-League All Stars

IT seems no team will come close to Sydney FC this season, so ROBBIE SLATER has come up with a best-of-the-rest team to take on the Sky Blues.

SYDNEY FC’s level of dominance is awesome to behold.

It seems no team will come close to them this season, so I’ve come up with a best-of-the-rest team to take on the Sky Blues.

And guess what?

I don’t think I’d take any of them over the starting side for Sydney.

Upfront, Besart Berisha has a brilliant record over many years but Bobo is simply in a class of his own at the moment having scored 14 goals for the season, including eight in the past four.

Sydney FC could take on the best.
Sydney FC could take on the best.

Alex Brosque has had fitness issues and you could make the argument Castro or Dimitri Petratos could slot into his position.

But when he’s fit and firing, I’d still take Brosque.

Then you look at some of the other names such as Redmayne, Ninkovic and Wilkshire and it becomes an easy process.

Yes, yes, yes.

Last year we were debating where Sydney FC stood in the all-time list of Australian club teams but this year’s squad has taken it to another level.

Filip Holosko was a strong player whose stats were good but Adrian Mierzejewski has brought quality in different areas that has added to Graham Arnold’s strike power.

Bringing back Luke Wilkshire from Europe as an injury replacement for Rhyan Grant has also been a masterstroke.

And that’s one of the things Sydney don’t get credit for — their ability to replace players not just with good ones but often better.

They’re eight points in front of Newcastle and were an incredible 15 ahead of third-placed Adelaide heading into last night’s games.

The second half of their 6-0 win over Perth a couple of weeks ago was the best performance I’ve seen in the A-League.

It was brutal across the park: class, movement, technique and sheer brilliance.

It’s between this squad and Brisbane Roar at their peak for the best in the history of the competition and, as the records keep tumbling, the Sky Blues edge further ahead.

After Wednesday night’s draw with Newcastle they have an A-League record 24-game unbeaten streak at home.

There were 18,055 fans at that game and I’d urge anyone who loves watching top-level football to get out there and see this squad in action.

Such is their brilliance, the whingers are saying it’s bad for the A-League.

Well, you always say that when it’s not your team doing well.

And no team has been more hated than Sydney FC because, well, it’s Sydney.

Sydney have just recruited too well and the rest of the competition is trying to play catch-up.

It doesn’t look like Arnold will get the national gig now because it’s dragging on too long, which allows him to continue this wonderful journey and the Asian Champions League is just around the corner.

Arnold has created something very special and I’m looking forward to seeing how far they can go.
