Melbourne City sign Kearyn Baccus from Western Sydney Wanderers

MELBOURNE City has bolstered its squad ahead of next Saturday’s season opener, signing midfielder Kearyn Baccus from Western Sydney Wanderers.

MELBOURNE City has bolstered its squad ahead of next Saturday’s season opener, signing tidy ex Western Sydney midfielder Kearyn Baccus.

He joins as an injury replacement for former Rangers attacker Michael O’Halloran, who’ll miss at least two months with a serious hamstring injury.

With Nathaniel Atkinson, Dylan Pierias and Ramy Najjarine among the six City players away with the Young Socceroos, Joyce is taking no chances ahead of the Melbourne derby season opener, adding to a squad that already looks deep with strong first-team options.

Baccus featured against City in an FFA Cup clash three weeks ago, but the Wanderers agreed to release the skillful midfielder on Friday.

“Michael O’Halloran has been training well so losing him to injury is unfortunate, but we’ve secured

a quality replacement in Kearyn Baccus,” Joyce said.

“Kearyn will add quality and brings a wealth of experience to the squad, helping maintain the

current tough competition for places.”

Baccus, 27, played 74 games for the Wanderers and is likely to feature in the Round 1 squad.

“I’m excited to have a fresh opportunity at Melbourne City and will be doing all I can to support the

team over these next few months,” Baccus said.

“I’m here to work hard, develop my game and show the Melbourne City fans what I can do.”
