CROYDON Kings has been docked points for fielding an incorrect team sheet last month.
Kings issued a statement claiming the deduction was harsh after the club notified Football Federation SA of the error.
“It was an honest mistake by a volunteer who stood in for the regular team manager on the day,’’ Kings posted on its website. “We thought it a harsh penalty and did raise alternative measures, but the FFSA have stood firm and awarded the game to AU (Adelaide United’s NPL side) and the table has been adjusted accordingly.”
Adelaide United’s NPL side was awarded a 3-0 forfeit for the round-five clash after Kings fielded a player that wasn’t named on the team sheet in a 1-1 draw at Polonia Reserve.
“Rule 38(2)(b) specifies that a club shall not play in any match a player who is not named on the team sheet for the match,’’ declared FFSA.
“The penalty for a breach of this rule is a forfeit of the match. As a consequence the result will be amended to a forfeit result, Croydon Kings 0 v Adelaide United 3.”
Despite being shattered with the outcome Kings drew 1-1 with Birkalla at Roxby Downs on Saturday night.
In other matches, Adelaide City smashed Adelaide United’s NPL side 6-0 to move three points clear at the top of the NPL table.
Former Adelaide United youth team attacker Nikola Mileusnic jagged a hat trick in the clash at Adelaide City Park.
