Ex-Geelong midfielder Quinton Narkle in ‘limbo’ as he waits for a second club

Talented delisted midfielder Quinton Narkle is on the hunt for a second club and his manager gives an update on where the ex-Geelong player is at.

Discarded Cat Quinton Narkle has had interest from AFL clubs to continue his career as his manager declares “there wouldn’t be a club in the country that could justify saying he shouldn’t be on a list”.

The slippery midfielder played 41 games across five seasons at Geelong and was delisted last week as the Cats cut five players.

Narkle had plenty of fans within Geelong’s football department and showed clear AFL traits as an inside midfielder capable of kicking goals, having played strongly in the VFL this season.

As a delisted free agent, Narkle can sign with any club he chooses, with those signings expected to take place as the trade period winds up, once clubs know how many list spots they have spare.

His manager, Anthony Van Der Wielen, said Narkle hasn’t locked in a club to sign with yet but he had fielded some interest from across the league.

“We are hopeful that will come together in a couple of week’s time,” he said.

“At the moment clubs are considering how many list spots are available and that can change dramatically in trade week, whether you get more (draft) picks or less picks than you were expecting.

“If you looked at Quinton, there wouldn’t be a club in the country that could justify saying he shouldn’t be on a list and I think he is better than a late draft pick so we just have to wait and see how that settled down and at the appropriate time hope we have got somewhere to go.

“He is a really good kid. It is a horrible time being in limbo and without a commitment so we are all hoping he will end up somewhere. It is just a frustrating time.”

Narkle has taken a chance to take his mind off football and have a holiday in Darwin before heading home to Perth to be with family.

Van Der Wielen wouldn’t be drawn into which clubs have flagged interest in the midfielder.

Fellow delisted Cat Francis Evans is likely to land at Port Adelaide.
