SWAN Districts Football Club can lay claim to being the biggest AFLW nursery but a club on the other side of the country is threatening to take its mantle.
The Swans, based north-east of Perth in Western Australia, has produced 24 AFLW draftees since the first crop were gathered by clubs for the inaugural season in 2017.
On the eastern coast Bond University, located on the Gold Coast in Queensland, has beaten out many of its southern rivals to boast 21 draftees, including twins Litonya and Laquoiya Cockatoo-Motlap who have joined expansion club Port Adelaide this year.
Ruby Sargent-Wilson (Sydney Swans) and Krystal Scott (Gold Coast) also signed pre-draft deals.

Bond University are also confident pressure forward Jasmyn Smith will have her named called on June 29, taking the number of Bull Sharks lacing up the boots across the AFLW to 22.
“When the competition (AFLW) was created in 2017 I saw that as a young girl and that’s the year I decided to play club footy,” 18-year-old Smith said.
“So, if I can pull on the red and yellow and inspire a few girls to join AFL than they would be a dream come true.
“I’m sure my dad will be emotional, he might shed a few tears, he’s been waiting for this moment.
“We’ll see how it plays out, hopefully it’s a great night.”
AFL Queensland chairman Dean Warren said the introduction of the Bond University QWAFL side in 2018 had not only given the women’s game a strong presence on the Gold Coast, the club had also become an outstanding gateway to the elite level for young players from all over Queensland.
“Bond University’s professionalism and their investment in women’s football has been significant,’’ he said.
“They have created an outstanding environment and culture that is quite professional which gives their players the best chance to maximise their potential and continue their development,” he said.
The impressive number of players that have been drafted to the AFLW from their club is testament to that.’’
