West Indies star Carlos Brathwaite signs with Sydney Sixers

THE Sixers are yet to register a win this Big Bash but the club has been buoyed by the signing of West Indies star Carlos Brathwaite and Sam Billings is keen to secure a victory before one-day duties for England.

Carlos Brathwaite has joined the Sixers for the remainder of the BBL.

THEY have had little to cheer about, but the Sydney Sixers will be finally proud of the fact they have poached Carlos Brathwaite from their cross-town rivals for the remainder of the Big Bash.

As Pommy pair Sam Billings and Jason Roy try to farewell the Sixers with a victory in Hobart on Monday night, the struggling franchise received a welcome boost when they landed the services of the powerhouse West Indian for the four remaining Big Bash games.

Brathwaite is a gun all-rounder who loved the Thunder but did not want to commit because of the Windies’ tour of New Zealand.

Barely hours after Brathwaite completed the Kiwi tour last week, Sixers management pulled out all stops to arrange a visa and convince the 29-year-old to ditch the west and join the BBL glamour boys.

Carlos Brathwaite has joined the Sixers for the remainder of the BBL.

While Brathwaite’s switch will add plenty of spice to Saturday’s derby at the Sydney Cricket Ground, the Sixers will first worry about breaking through for their first win of the summer in Hobart.

Billings is one player determined to hand the Sixers a win before he joins England’s one-day squad for the five-match series against Australia.

The Sixers will be boosted by the return of Test quick Jackson Bird and opening batsman Daniel Hughes.

“My full attention will be on Hobart and putting in a performance for the boys to get us across the line,’’ Billings told The Daily Telegraph.

“The small moments have dictated our season so far.

“It’s a shame because we’ve played some really good cricket in small parts.

“Twenty20 is a momentum game, it’s a confidence game, that first game (against the Thunder) we should have won that game 95 per cent of the time.

“Personally I’m hitting the ball well, I just haven’t got that big score. I was slightly regretful against the Renegades (last Wednesday) I didn’t go harder earlier, and if I did maybe we get 130 or 140 and suddenly we’re in the game.’’

Unlike the Ashes blowout, Billings said the Pommy one-day team would not be pushovers.

“One-day cricket is totally different to Test cricket, and we have a different group of lads in our squad who are as good as any side in the world,’’ Billings told The Daily Telegraph.

“We’ve got a fantastic squad. We’ll have every confidence going into that series.

“We’ll know it will be tough, and it’s always tough in Australia, but we’ve got a seriously good side, and it’s a matter of focusing on what we can do, in terms of batting especially _ our batting line-up in seriously strong.

“We want to bounce back from the Ashes, white-ball cricket is very different, so we’ll be fine.’’
