Sixers captain Moises Henriques on standby to dash to wife’s side for impending birth of first child
Sydney Sixers captain Moises Henriques could be playing a match when the call comes telling him his wife has gone into labour.

The Sydney Sixers’ captain Moises Henriques is getting ready for the most important delivery of his life.
He isn’t exactly sure when it’s going to happen but he knows it’s going to be soon and there’s no way he’s going to miss this delivery, even though there’s a chance he may have to leave his teammates in the middle of a match.
His wife Krista is expecting their first child any day now so like any expectant father, Henriques is preparing to spring into action the moment she goes into labour.
But there’s a hitch. The Sixers have just started a nine-day road trip with Big Bash matches in Melbourne, Coffs Harbour and Adelaide so Henriques is on high alert in case he has to fly home in a hurry.
“It’s probably much tougher on my wife than it is for me, that’s for sure,” he said.

“We’ve probably got a week left now til it’s due but thankfully it’s T20 cricket so it only goes for three hours so if something happens, I can just jump on a plane and come straight back home.
“Had it been a Shield game or something like that I might not have been able to come on this tour but these things happen. I’m not the first cricketer to have a baby but it’s definitely exciting.”
Henriques, 32, married his long-term partner Krista Thomas in a seaside wedding in Cairns in mid 2018 and said the Sixers have had plenty of time to prepare contingency plans in the expectation their skipper might have to leave the team at a moment’s notice,
“We do have backup and another captain ready to go and we’ve also got extra batting coverage as well,” he said.
“It’s all been planned for – almost nine months ago now – so the team’s got a pretty good idea about what’s going to happen.”
Unless things happen quicker than expected, Henriques will lead the Sixers in Thursday night’s clash with the Renegades at Marvel Stadium.
While the Sixers have made a strong start to the season, winning three of their first five matches, the defending champions are rooted to the bottom of the table without a win from their first four matches, which only makes them more dangerous.
The Sixers won’t finalise their starting XI until just before the toss but have made some changes to the squad that beat the Thunder in the Super Over thriller at the SCG last weekend.
Injured spinner Steve O’Keefe returns along with paceman Mickey Edwards and English import James Vince, who was a last minute withdrawal from the Thunder clash after injuring his elbow in the warm-up.
Hayden Kerr and injured fast bowler Sean Abbott both drop out of the squad.
