GLENN Maxwell is considering passing up a million-dollar Indian Premier League payday to head to England to bolster his World Cup and Ashes ambitions.

Maxwell was among a host of Aussies let go by their IPL teams before next month’s auction, but he is considering skipping nominating for the 2019 event.

“I only got the email on Thursday that I had been released. I’ll weigh up my options, whether it would be better for me to try and go over to England and play some county cricket, or just have that time off before the World Cup,” said Maxwell, who earned $1.75 million with the Delhi Daredevils this year.

“There’s all sorts of options. I’ll sit down and have a think about that over the next few days.”

The Victorian is looking for more batting time in the four T20 internationals, starting against South Africa followed by the Indian series.

Maxwell, Aussie T20 skipper Aaron Finch and fast bowler Pat Cummins were all jettisoned by their respective IPL franchises on the deadline day.

Banned duo Steve Smith and Dave Warner, along with Chris Lynn, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Billy Stanlake, Andrew Tye and Marcus Stoinis all retained their IPL deals.

The cuts came on the same day Cricket Australia declared any World Cup bound Australians wouldn’t be able to fulfil any IPL contracts, required instead for a training camp in England in May.

Maxwell said that created “uncertainty” for some, including himself after a lean-time with the one-day team during the series loss to South Africa.

“A guy like myself, who hasn’t exactly nailed down a spot in the one-day side, I might not even be in that World Cup squad, so it does leave a little bit of uncertainty there for players who are on the fringe,” he said.

“But you’d much rather be preparing for the World Cup than not.”

After being dropped to number seven in the batting order during the ODI series, Maxwell is hoping for more time in the middle in the upcoming T20 clashes.

He took feedback from his captain and good friend Finch on board and hoped a return to T20, where Maxwell has two centuries and averages 31, helped him produce his best.

“We talk all the time anyway. We had breakfast the following day when we got back to Melbourne. You always want that honest feedback from whoever it is,” Maxwell said.

“When it comes form a close mate and the captain, you take it on board and try to improve. “That’s all I’m trying to do, and every time I have been called out, or asked to do something, I’ve gone away and tried to improve.”

Maxwell has done his best T20 work for Australia batting at number four, and said he would talk to Finch and coach Justin Langer to find the best position for him to help the team.
