CRICKET superstar Ellyse Perry has confirmed she will play for Victoria - but it won’t be this summer.

Perry and husband, new Melbourne Rebels Super Rugby signing Matt Toomua, will move to Melbourne next year after the 27-year-old has played out the upcoming season with NSW and WBBL side Sydney Sixers.

Perry plans to see out her 2019-2020 contact with the Sixers, meaning Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades won’t benefit from her move until possibly the 2020-2021 season.

“I think at this stage the plan will be, because I’ll move down to Melbourne full time, I’ll play for Victoria, if they’ll have me,” Perry said.

“I feel very, very fortunate to have played for NSW for so long … it was really tough, but I think more than anything, it was a family decision for Matt and I to have the opportunity to live together full time for the first time ever, to move into the next stage of our life was the most important thing.”

Perry and her Australian teammates are gearing up for the World T20 to be played in West Indies from November, a title they last won in 2014.

The side plays a three-game series against New Zealand on home soil from September 29, before their attention shifts to the Caribbean.

“Having success at a major tournament, I think that’s what defines you as a team,” Perry said.

“And with one eye especially on the T20 World Cup in 2020 in Australia, that’s probably going to be the biggest opportunity we’ve ever had to showcase the game in the country and take it forward.

Wallaby Toomua has spent three years in England playing for Leicester and will play one last season, finishing up mid-2019, before moving to Melbourne.
