Campbell Kellaway is a glass half-full man.
The Melbourne batsman could dwell on the difficulties Covid has presented over the last 18 months to young cricketers such as himself trying to make their mark on the sport.
Cancelled tournaments, shortened seasons and quarantining have become a way of life for all in sport as well as the general community.

Currently representing the City Cyclones in the T20 Strike League, Kellaway was forced to endure two weeks quarantine in Howard Springs after leaving Melbourne in June.
Some would see it as a tiring punishment. But Kellaway, who completed exams for subjects in his Monash University double degree in business and arts while in isolation, has taken the restrictions of the Covid world in his stride and is only grateful for his situation.
A member of Australia’s wider U19 World Cup squad, Kellaway – whose 62 off 48 balls helped the Cyclones to their maiden T20 Strike League win at Darwin’s DXC Arena on Tuesday night – knows elite sport faces a bumpy road at the moment, with tournament cancellations, training camp postponements and missed opportunities a way of life.
But he also has a refreshingly mature outlook.

“It’s obviously been frustrating at times over the last 18 months,” Kellaway said.
“All of us want to be out there playing cricket as much as we can but it’s just cricket and there’s much more important things at stake.
“You’ve just got to look at the bigger picture at times and think that whilst in your own mind it’s pretty important to be out there playing cricket, it’s just a game at the end of the day and you’ve got to go with the flow for the time being.
“But obviously it’s a pretty big summer coming up with hopefully the national titles and a World Cup in the West Indies for the blokes that make that team.
“We’re hoping that opportunities like that get to go ahead but we’ve got to go with the flow for the time being and do what we can.”
For Kellaway, going with the flow has meant playing his trade in the top end over the winter.
And he is making the most of his opportunities with some eye-catching performances in both the T20 and one-day arenas, including a 92 off 103 balls for a Cricket Australia XI in the Top End one-day series.
“It was good to spend some time out in the middle, you can’t really get enough of it,” he said.
“I’ve been lucky to escape lockdowns in Melbourne – I think there’s been about three since I’ve been up here.
“I’d be at home most of the time if I were in Melbourne at the moment.
“I think if I was back home it would just be me and dad going to the nets in our 5km radius and here I’m obviously very lucky to have professional cricketers hanging around and I’m trying to soak it all in.”
After leading the Cyclones to their first win of the T20 Strike League on Tuesday night, Kellaway hopes to be on song again on Thursday when City take on the Northern Tide in the final fixture of the competition – a match that will decide the make-up of Friday’s final.
The Cyclones and Tide play at Darwin’s DXC Arena from 6.30pm AEST, with the match streamed live on News Corp websites.
