A Casey South Melbourne player has been charged and will face the Victorian Premier Cricket tribunal over ball-tampering allegations.

The player is alleged to have scraped the ball across a concrete gutter on the boundary in the first hour of play in the match between the Swans and Melbourne at Casey Fields last Saturday.

Victorian Premier Cricket operations manager Darren Anderson said a Swan had been charged with changing the condition of the ball.

It is a Level 3 offence and if found guilty a player can receive a suspension of between three and five weeks.

Premier officials laid the charge after receiving an “incident report’’ from the two umpires.

The tribunal will sit tomorrow night.

Anderson collected the ball — which was about 20 overs old — from the umpires on Monday.

“It (incident report) talks to the situation and it’s from that information that Cricket Victoria has made a charge and called for a tribunal hearing,’’ Anderson said.

CODE Sports understands the ball was changed after the over was completed.

The Will Pucovski-coached Melbourne won the match, hitting 7-346 in reply to the home team’s 306.
