CAMERON White has conceded he failed to make the most of his unexpected return to international cricket after scoring just 20 runs from two bats at No.3 for Australia.

White, 34, replaced Chris Lynn (calf) in the ODI squad but was dropped for the last game of the 4-1 series loss to England.

Marcus Stoinis then stepped up to slash 87 (99) batting at No.3 in Sunday’s loss at Perth Stadium.

Australia is searching for a new No.3 after captain Steve Smith lowered himself to No.4.

White was given the first chance to shine on the back of his blistering white-ball form in recent years.

The Victorian great scored an unbeaten 15 (21) at No.7 in his return to Australian colours and then was dismissed for 17 (25) and 3 (7) at No.3.

White spoke to Trevor Hohns on Wednesday but said he was unsure what the chairman of selector’s plans were as Australia ramps up preparations for its World Cup defence in England next winter.

“I definitely feel as though I missed a chance,” White said.

“I batted down the order in that first game and then obviously had two cracks at No.3 and didn’t get a score.

“Anytime you get an opportunity like that and don’t nail a big score it’s a missed opportunity.

“After being dropped in the last game it’s probably unlikely (I’ll be back). But I’m not really sure to be honest.”

After the Big Bash finals, White is unlikely to play any white-ball cricket until the domestic one-day competition next September.
