Why big hitters can give you an edge in SuperCoach BBL
The top-four run scorers in last summer’s Big Bash League accrued more than 100 extra SuperCoach BBL points from their strike rates. Here’s the batsmen you should target to boost your score in BBL09.

SuperCoach BBL’s strike rate bonus can be worth hundreds of points a season.
In BBL08, top scorers D’Arcy Short (184 points), Matthew Wade (189), Marcus Stoinis (125), and Callum Ferguson (114) boosted their season averages thanks to strike rates of 130 or better.
Strike rate is determined by the number of balls a batsman faces in comparison to their runs scored.
For example, if a T20 batsman plundered 120 runs from 100 balls, they would finish their innings with a strike rate of 120.
In SuperCoach BBL, that would equate to an extra 20 points.
Batsman are awarded one point for every run they accumulate above the number of balls they faced.
When Ferguson hammered 113 from 53 balls against Perth Scorchers last season, he banked an extra 60 points.
Strike rate bonus is also crucial when considering power hitters whose job is to launch at the end of the innings.
If you choose an all-rounder such as Daniel Sams or Ben Cutting who is capable of belting 30 runs from 10 balls, the extra 20 points gives their knock as much value as an opener who compiles a patient half-century.
Sams clubbed 34 off 21 and 28 from 11 balls in his first two innings of BBL08, brief innings which proved profitable for his SuperCoach BBL owners.
Nathan Coulter-Nile (166.1), Alex Ross (162.5), Josh Philippe (158.3), Ben Cutting (153.7) and Max Bryant (150.2) had the best strike rates of batsmen who scored at least 100 runs in BBL08.
