SuperCoach BBL 2025/26: Six rising stars ready to take BBL15 by storm

The Big Bash is a well-trodden path to the Australian set-up and the riches of the worldwide T20 circuit. These are six players ready to become household names in BBL15.

Oliver Peake makes hundred

Litte more than 18 months have passed since Josh Brown rocketed from obscurity to a history-maker.

The big-hitting Queenslander was a relative unknown when BBL14 finals started — at least outside the Sunshine State.

Then he blasted a 41-ball century, hit 12 sixes with a bat he made himself and was front and centre of every sports news bulletin across the country.

Brown earned a multi-year deal with Melbourne Renegades after his finals heroics and soon featured in overseas T20 tournaments.

His rapid ascension highlighted the impact the BBL can have to fast-track a player’s career.

These are the six breakout stars we expect to make a name for themselves during BBL15.

Liam Scott (Strikers) $122,200 BAT-BWL

BBL14 SUPERCOACH AVERAGE: 46.3

The all-rounder was South Australia’s ODI player of the year last summer and is progressing through the ranks of Australian cricket quickly. Scott was recently part of the Australia A tour of India, making 73 from, 64 balls in the last of the one-dayers. The 24-year-old showcased his batting talent in the BBL last summer when promoted to No.4 in the last game of the season against Perth Scorchers, clubbing 67 from 43 balls. Scott looks set to bat in the Strikers’ top five and will be a handy sixth or seventh bowling option. He’s an international player in waiting.

Lachie Hearne (Heat) $39,500 BAT

BBL14 SUPERCOACH AVERAGE: N/A

After being around the fringes of state and BBL squads in recent years, Hearne has taken a significant leap. The 24-year-old is a regular in Queensland’s white-ball side, featured in two matches of Australia A’s tour of India and scored 346 runs at an average of 69.2 in Queensland’s T20 Max competition. The left-hander should get a chance to establish himself as part of the Heat middle-order while Marnus Labuschagne and Usman Khawaja are on Test duties. Hearne looms as a must-have SuperCoach bench cheapie.

Hugh Weibgen made an impressive start to the season for Queensland.

Hugh Weibgen (Heat) $58,500 BAT-BWL

BBL14 SUPERCOACH AVERAGE: 9.3

The former Aussie under-19 captain is making a big impression in Queensland. Weibgen broke through to play six games for Sydney Thunder last season, but only faced 50 balls while batting in the lower-order. Weibgen has since switched his allegiance to Brisbane Heat, where he looks destined for opportunities as a batting all-rounder. He made an unbeaten 115 against Western Australia in late September and could be used as the second spinner behind Matt Kuhnemann in BBL15, depending on conditions.

BBL14 SUPERCOACH AVERAGE: 19

The Victorian batter has been earmarked for the top and was included in the touring party when Australia headed to Sri Lanka earlier this year. Peake only turned 19 a few months ago but is already being touted as an Australian player in the making. Peake debuted for the Renegades last summer and showed poise beyond his years when his 70 not out salvaged a draw for Victoria against South Australia in early October. Peake looks certain to earn more opportunities as the Renegades’ middle-order linchpin.

Harry Dixon (Renegades) $58,500 BAT

BBL14 SUPERCOACH AVERAGE: 15

Dixon is another young Victorian batter tagged as a star of the future — and it’s little wonder after he scored 84 from 56 balls and 148 from 125 balls against England’s under-19s a few years ago. Last summer Dixon amassed two run-a-ball centuries for Victoria’s Second XI. The powerful left-hander scores big runs — and quickly — suggesting he’s a BBL force in the making.

Mahli Beardman tears in for the Scorchers last summer.

Mahli Beardman (Scorchers) $85,300 BWL

BBL14 SUPERCOACH AVERAGE: 64.7

The 20-year-old speedster exploded onto the BBL scene last summer, taking 3-17 in his second match against Adelaide Strikers.

Beardman has only recently returned to Western Australia’s squad after being sidelined by a back stress fracture, but should be good to go by the start of the BBL pending any setbacks.

And it’s a good thing he will be, with uncertainty about Jhye Richardson (shoulder) and Jason Behrendorff (Renegades), while Andrew Tye has moved on. BBL15 shapes as a changing of the guard in Perth’s pace ranks with Beardman at the forefront.
