KFC SuperCoach BBL: All the best trade options and advice for Rounds 10

KFC SuperCoaches have been gifted an extra two trades each round to combat the fluid BBL fixture. Here is who to target ahead of Round 10.

Another round, another couple of postponements.

Two matches were impacted in Round 9 which gave KFC SuperCoaches even more headaches — but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Fortunately, the generous folks at KFC SuperCoach headquarters have upped our trade limit from three to five trades per round to navigate the Covid-19 carnage, that has impacted almost every team – besides the Adelaide Strikers.

The most important lesson from all of this is to leave your trades as late as possible within each round, as we have seen Covid-19 clusters nearly wipe out the entire starting XI of the Melbourne Stars and Brisbane Heat in the past week.

Another key point is to not look too far ahead, because as we have seen, a Covid-19 postponement could be right around the corner.

Sydney Thunder and Hobart Hurricanes have the double this round and with no imminent Covid concerns (touch wood), players from these two sides should be your first point of call.

Should further announcements be required, we will advice KFC SuperCoaches as soon as possible.

So, with all that in mind, here is who we should be targeting with our bevy of trades in Round 10.

The double

Ben McDermott $260,900 BAT (Hurricanes) Break even: 268

Ordinarily, buying a player with a 268 break even would be SuperCoach Sacrilege. But those who watched Brisbane Heat’s grade cricket attack get pummeled by the Melbourne Renegades on Thursday night would be nervous going into a Hurricanes double without McDermott. The dynamic batter is coming off two lean knocks of 0 and 11, but his back-to-back BBL centuries in the Canes’ last double stick firmly in the memory, and who knows what he could produce against the Heat’s cobbled together bowling line-up and the Thunder. McDermott is the leading BBL run scorer and boasts the highest strike rate in the competition (163.96) - however, he is the most expensive player in the game.

Daniel Sams $179,800 BAT-BWL (Thunder) Break even: 59

The Thunder will also feature twice in Round 10, and Sams is a must-have in a double-game round – especially at the price. The premier KFC SuperCoach all-rounder of the past two seasons hasn’t quite been at his best, especially with the bat – apart from a quick-fire 28 in Round 5 – but he’s starting to get it right with the ball. Sams has taken nine wickets in his past five matches, including a four-wicket haul that resulted in 94 KFC SuperCoach points in Round 7.

Mohammad Husnain $140,000 BWL (Thunder) Break even: 33

The Pakistani speedster took the Big Bash by storm in his debut game with a triple-wicket maiden in his first over, but was unable to play in the Thunder’s win over the Scorchers because of Queensland’s border laws. It mean Husnain will be fit and firing for the Round 10 double, against opponents who have been known to crumble during BBL11. With express paceman Saqid Mahmood joining the England white ball squad, Husnain’s role should improve – and that’s after 111 points in his first game.

D’Arcy Short $143,800 BAT/BWL (Hurricanes) Break even: 88

Short is still managing to score runs with the bat, but he is striking at less than a run a ball in BBL11 – staggering considering his career strike rate of 132 in the BBL. Blows to Ellis and Meredith give Short significant upside for his price, given he should be entrusted with more overs with the ball. His most recent score of 66 without excelling against the Strikers underlines his all-round scoring talents.

Tom Rogers $178,000 BWL (Hurricanes) Break even: 169

It is unclear whether an injury to seamer Nathan Ellis helped Rogers in his last start, posting his second lowest score of the tournament, but a further injury to Riley Meredith should give him more key overs at the death and in the powerplay. Rogers is currently the sixth ranked player for total points this season and is another to look at despite his high break even.

Matthew Gilkes $125,700 WKP-BAT (Thunder) Break even: 82

Highlighting his enormous talent, the young opener smashed 93 off 57 balls against the Strikers, to record the fourth-highest KFC SuperCoach score of the round of 148. He followed it up with 52 points against a talented Scorchers bowling attack. Gilkes is likely to take the gloves after the departure of Sam Billings, which is an added bonus.

Alex Hales $92,500 BAT (Thunder) Break even: 73

BB10’s leading run scorer has overcome a bout of Covid-19, so we can forgive him for a pedestrian 26 from 32 deliveries against the Scorchers on Thursday night. A modest tournament sees Hales priced favourably ahead of the Thunder double, and the Renegades and Hurricanes will be in sights. The destructive Englishman averages 75.3 points per game from his four matches against the Renegades, and 74.2 points from five clashes with the Hurricanes. Another budget option that can pay off handsomely.

Matthew Wade $84,500 WKP/BAT (Hurricanes) Break even: 89

It is crazy to think Wade reached the heights of $162k just seven rounds ago after falling just shy of a century. Four KFC SuperCoach scores of 13 or lower since then have seen his price plummet to $84.5k, which is a steal for a player who helped propel Australia to its maiden T20 World Cup. He looks out of sorts, but is there a more favourable opponent to face than the decimated Brisbane Heat? On a double, he will be difficult to overlook.

Gurinder Sanhu $81,700 BWL (Thunder) Break even: -26

Want to grab a double-game player and also make some cash? Sandhu is your man. The experienced BBL seamer has been in and out of the Thunder line-up, but his 4/22 against the Scorchers yielded a whopping 113 points. He will be hard to drop with Mahmood coming out of the side.

NON DOUBLE

Shaun Marsh $120,400 BAT (Renegades) Break even: -9

Marsh has made his present felt from the outset in his first two BBL games of the season, posting KFC SuperCoach scores of 46 and 92, the latter coming from an aggressive 57 from 35 deliveries against the Heat. Marsh is one to seriously consider this round with the Renegades — at this stage — doubling up in Round 11.

Peter Siddle $136,800 BWL (Strikers) Break even: -71

Siddle has a tremendous average of 116 from his two matches against his next opponent the Melbourne Stars, and it could be a similar story given the depleted nature of the Stars line-up. The Strikers captain is coming off a remarkable five-wicket haul against the Hurricanes and is projected to rise another $40k if he nears a ton.

David Grant $63,000 BAT/BWL (Heat) Break even: -54

Few KFC SuperCoaches would have known who Grant was until Thursday night, where he filled in for the Heat with aplomb, snaring 3/20 from his four overs. He should get at least another game due to 12 Covid positives within the Heat squad, which should allow us to build up our bank.

COVID CONUNDRUM

Four Sydney Sixers players, yet to be officially identified, have tested positive for Covid-19.

It has been reported by Code Sport that Sean Abbott is among the quartet, but keep a close eye on the Sixers’ squad, which should drop on either Saturday night or on Sunday, before trading in any Sixers players.
