Code Sports BBL writer Daniel Cherny reveals his SuperCoach BBL team for BBL13

Daniel Cherny is new to SuperCoach BBL but has his nose to the ground when it comes to the latest Big Bash news. He reveals his team for BBL13 here.

Supercoach tips from 'Mr Cricket' Hussey

Big Bash news hound Daniel Cherny is putting his knowledge — and contacts — to the test by taking on SuperCoach BBL this summer.

And he’s doing it a little bit differently.

Rather than going with a tried-and-tested doubles strategy, he’s backing his gut on some of the key selection calls.

Check out his team below and read Dan’s work on CODE SPORTS.

WICKETKEEPERS

Matthew Wade (Hobart Hurricanes) $133,500 WK/BAT

Harry Nielsen (Adelaide Strikers) $63,500 BAT

Wade is dependable and hits this summer in strong form. Unless suspended he tends not to miss any games but doesn’t break the bank like some of his other fellow ‘keepers. Nielsen has a low ceiling but should play most of the summer given Alex Carey’s Test commitments so is a solid backup.

BATTERS

Tom Curran (Sydney Sixers) $180,000 BWL/BAT

Daniel Sams (Sydney Thunder) $162,500 BWL/BAT

Tim David (Hobart Hurricanes) $158,400 BAT

Aaron Finch (Melbourne Renegades) $125,700 BAT

Nic Maddinson (Melbourne Renegades) $87,200 BAT

Liam Dawson (Melbourne Stars) $105,000 BWL/BAT

Harry Dixon (Melbourne Renegades) $42,000 BAT

I’ve proritised guys who I think will play regularly. Curran has been the perfect import as he’s not really in England’s selection frame but performs consistently for the Sixers. Sams is reliable while Dawson will go straight into the Stars XI for the early games after replacing Harry Brook. Maddinson is great value coming back from a knee injury, while Finch is also pretty cheap, even if he is a fading force. David will be boom or bust depending on whether he’s needed but clearly has huge upside, while Dixon is an extremely cheap rising star.

BOWLERS

Matt Short (Adelaide Strikers) $244,100 BAT/BWL

Andrew Tye (Perth Scorchers) $185,400 BWL

Nathan Ellis (Hobart Hurricanes) $152,700 BWL

Tanveer Sangha (Sydney Thunder) $83,800 BWL

Mitchell Swepson (Brisbane Heat) $71,300 BWL

Paul Walter (Brisbane Heat) $105,000 BWL/BAT

Hamish McKenzie (Perth Scorchers) $42,000 BWL

Short is versatile and even at his price looks a safe bet given his impact in recent seasons. Tye and Ellis are bankers with the ball, while Sangha is very cheap coming off injuries and Swepson is an absolute bargain. Walter is solid enough backup who should play most of the summer, while McKenzie is perfect for the captaincy loophole if wanted.
