SuperCoach BBL: Who bowled the most dot balls in BBL08?

Dot balls are only worth one point in SuperCoach BBL. But when you consider the $25,000 prize was decided by 68 points last summer, it’s worth knowing how to take advantage of every possible source of points.

Consistency is the greatest difference between batsmen and bowlers in SuperCoach BBL.

Where batsmen largely rely on runs and strike rate for points, bowlers have multiple scoring options available.

In a match where they fail to take a wicket and leak runs, bowlers still score one point for every dot ball.

Injured Perth Scorchers quick Jason Behrendorff twice added 15 points or more to his total last season from dot balls, including a BBL08-high 19 points against Brisbane Heat when he collected 0-11 from four overs.

Despite going wicketless, Behrendorff amassed 59 bowling points (25 economy bonus, 15 for one maiden bowled, 19 dot balls).

There were 11 other times when players scored 15+ points from dots, a significant addition which all but guaranteed a handsome economy bonus.

Behrendorff’s importance to the Scorchers is emphasised by his rate of 2.99 dot balls an over bowled in BBL08.

That ranked him as the No. 1 bowler for dot balls an over of those who bowled more than 20 overs.

Chris Tremain’s late-season resurgence for Melbourne Renegades make him worth consideration should he start the campaign for his new club Sydney Thunder.

The Victorian seamer averaged 3.11 dot balls per over, second only to Test quick Pat Cummins (3.5) of every BBL08 bowler.

However, Cummins only featured once for the Thunder, when he took 2-28 from four overs.

Dot balls won’t be the greatest source of points — but every point matters in SuperCoach BBL.

Last season, only 68 points separated winner Sprunts Superstars from the second-placed QV Express.

More than 20,000 coaches have already signed on to SuperCoach BBL and if you want to set yourself apart, you need to take advantage of every possible points source.
