For the first time since Round 2 no team has a double game round, making high scoring point-of-difference picks all the more important ahead of Round 8.
It also means we have all eight sides to choose from, with an eye towards Perth Scorchers’ double in Round 9 – although they haven’t fared so well in recent matches.

Matthew Wade (Hobart Hurricanes) WKP/BAT
Ownership: 5.5 per cent
He doesn’t come cheap but Matthew Wade is a specialist in this format and if his first BBL game was anything to go by, he could be the No. 1 wicketkeeper from this point on. Wade scored 84 points against the Heat, amassing 61 from 46 balls as wickets fell around him before he was caught on the rope in controversial fashion. If you have cash to spare he is the perfect POD replacement for Strikers keeper Alex Carey, who will miss at least the next two weeks touring India with the Australian side. The only concern is he didn’t take the gloves in his first match, which may mean he won’t reach the same heights as last season.
James Pattinson (Brisbane Heat) BWL $126.6k
Ownership: 1.9 per cent
The Heat announced that James Pattinson ‘should be ready’ to play in their Round 8 fixture against the Perth Scorchers and he should relish the fast Perth Stadium deck. Pattinson failed to take a wicket in the final Test of the summer but has taken 23 BBL wickets in 19 games at an impressive strike rate of 17.3. Add in his aggressive batting down the order and $126.6k looms as a steal for a player of his calibre. Did I mention he is in under 2 per cent of teams? Stay up to date with our late mail to ensure he is named before making the move.
James Pattinson landed in Brisbane yesterday after the Test series and should be ready for our game in Perth over the weekend!#BringTheHeat #BBL09

Jhye Richardson (Perth Scorchers) BWL $173.5k
Ownership: 8.1%
Aftera couple of poor performances early in BBL09, Jhye Richardson is now roaring and has been the pick of the bowlers in the Scorchers’ recent games. Richardson posted scores of 137 and 190 respectively in his sides’ two double game rounds, and he has another one coming up in Round 9. Proved he can also contribute with the bat after blasting 33 off 14 deliveries in their last home game.
Michael Neser (Adelaide Strikers) BAT/BWL $133.5K
Ownership: 2.9 per cent
As expert Tim Michell flagged in his Round 8 trade guide, players who can contribute with both bat and ball give you greater chance of a good score, and Michael Neser is the perfect example of that. Neser took two wickets in his last match on his way to a respectable 58 points, while his batting earnt him 35 of his 45 points in his first BBL game for the season in Round 6. A bowler who should bowl four overs each game and bats at six is a valuable selection and he is at a much more affordable price than fellow all-rounders Tom Curran, Daniel Sams and Chris Morris.
Ben Dwarshuis (Sydney Sixers) BWL $146.4k
Ownership: 7.7 per cent
The Sixers opening bowler has taken the equal sixth most wickets for the tournament, bagging 10 wickets while conceding less than seven runs per over. His tidy 2/20 against the Strikers netted him 94 SuperCoach points, bringing his average to 63.9 points per game. With Josh Hazlewood off to India Dwarshuis will be relied upon even more.
