SuperCoach BBL Bible: Round 6

SuperCoaches face an interesting conundrum this week.

Heat and Renegades are on the double and therefore the teams to target, yet these sides are battling and currently sit sixth and seventh on the ladder.

Can these struggling players produce more points in two games than the rest of the comp can in one game?

ODI TEAM ANALYSIS

Australia’s ODI team has been named and the news is mixed for SuperCoach.

Winners:

- Chris Lynn missed ODI selection and also has the double this week, making him the buy of the round.

Chris Lynn is not in the ODI side.

- Aaron Finch will get a game of Big Bash after being dumped from the Test side but won’t play the second match of the Renegades’ double due to ODI duties.

- D’Arcy Short was also a shock exclusion and is therefore a hold for SuperCoach, but not a trade target given he has the bye next week.

Losers:

- In-form Scorchers’ quicks Jason Behrendorff and Jhye Richardson are sells after shock call-ups to the ODI squad.

- As expected, Alex Carey, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis and Adam Zampa made the Australian side and are therefore sells.

Glenn Maxwell has been called into the ODI side.

INTERNATIONAL ANALYSIS

- England’s Joe Denly, Jos Buttler and Joe Root are available this round before heading to the West Indies for a Test series.

- Jofra Archer hasn’t been included in either the ODI or Test squad, with his England registration still to be finalised.

- Despite being named in the England ODI side, David Willey and Tom Curran remain in the Big Bash for at least a few more rounds as the series won’t start until February.

- Stars spinner Sandeep Lamichanne has left for the Bangladesh Premier League and must be sold.

Tom Curran remains with the Sixers for at least a few more rounds.

WHAT WE LEARNED FROM LAST ROUND

1. Cream rises to the top

With no team on the bye or double, SuperCoach was a battle of best v best for the first time this season. The superstars rose to the occasion including D’Arcy Short (119), Marcus Stoinis (115), Jake Weatherald (110), Nathan Coulter-Nile (109), Rashid Khan (107) and Ben Cutting (95).

2. All-rounders rule

Six of the top 10 players in SuperCoach are dual position players - Tom Curran (564), Daniel Sams (551), D’Arcy Short (548), Jos Buttler (396), Nathan Coulter-Nile (377) and Marcus Stoinis (359). The lesson? Any player who scores in multiple disciplines is gold for SuperCoach.

3. James Faulkner is back

He was once an automatic short-form selection for Australia, but the Hurricanes’ all-rounder has fallen well-down the pecking order after a horror run with injury. Faulkner is now back somewhere near his best, sitting equal second on the wickets list with 10 and scoring the 11th most SuperCoach points of any player.

SCHEDULE ANALYSIS

Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Renegades are both on the double this week. No teams are on the bye. The Renegades also have the double in round nine, meaning they play six games in the next four rounds.

Strikers have the double next round, while the Hurricanes are on the bye.

STUDS

Chris Lynn

Not having Lynn in your side when he has a double game week is simply asking for trouble. He scored 87 and 33 when Brisbane played twice in round one but is starting to hit his straps. Do whatever you need to in order to trade him in.

Ben Cutting

Cutting started BBL08 with a massive score of 180 across two games in round one. He’s exactly the type of SuperCoach player you want, capable of impacting a game with bat and ball in the blink of an eye. He had an economy rate of 10 runs per over last summer but has improved to about eight this season.

Dan Christian

As mentioned, all-rounders are gold for SuperCoach and Christian has notched important points with both bat and ball this year without standing out at either. Still, he has scored the most points of any Renegade and 12th most points of any player.

Kane Richardson

The in-swing specialist has scored the second most SuperCoach points of any Renegade this year. He sits equal sith on the wickets list with nine, benefitting from a Marvel Stadium pitch where a wicket has fallen every 14 runs.

CHEAPIE WATCH

Max Bryant

The “Baby Bash Brother” opened the batting last match and notched 34 off 18 balls at an incredible strike rate of 189. Bryant recently scored the fastest ever half century by a Queenslander in domestic one-day cricket (71 from 31 balls).

Brendon McCullum

The former Heat captain has dropped to criminally low price of $70,200 after a poor start. He has to get some runs soon.

CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN

Chris Lynn is rightly the most popular captain. But any other player on the double will do the trick including Daniel Christian, Kane Richardson, Ben Cutting, Mohammed Nabi and Mujeeb Ur Rahman
