Peter Siddle is set for a return to the Melbourne Renegades after the Adelaide Strikers announced the veteran paceman would be departing the club.

Siddle, 38, spent six seasons with the Strikers. He was a member of the club‘s title-winning team in 2017-18 and served as a stopgap captain.

But the former Test quick is poised for a homecoming, with industry sources indicating on Wednesday night that Siddle was likely to join the Renegades, where he played before joining Adelaide.

It would complete Siddle‘s road back to Victorian cricket after he earlier this year signed with the Victorian state side following three years in Tasmania.

Siddle would join Adam Zampa and Nathan Lyon as high-profile acquisitions for the Renegades this off-season.

The Strikers lauded Siddle for his contribution to the club.

“Sidds has been the heart and soul of the Adelaide Strikers and we wish him all the best as he moves into the next chapter of his career,” Strikers general manager of cricket Tim Nielsen said.

“Wherever Sidds uses his talents next, they’ll get not only an elite cricketer, but a great leader who goes about it the right way.

“We thank Sidds for everything he has done for the Strikers – he is the kind of player that leaves an imprint on a team and we are extremely fortunate that he has done that here.”

Adelaide coach Jason Gillespie was similarly glowing in his praise.

“A pleasure to coach, Sids has given everything for the Strikers from the day he arrived,” Gillespie said.

“I know how much he loves playing at Adelaide Oval and it went both ways, the crowd here just love cheering Sids on as he charges towards the crease. His time in Adelaide will always be fondly remembered, especially given he was such a vital part of our Championship winning season.”
