Sydney Thunder opener Usman Khawaja blew his chance to show the Australian selectors they’d made a mistake by leaving him out of the one-day squad to tour India next month after getting an extraordinary let off against the Brisbane Heat.
Khawaja should have been out on the fourth ball of the innings after being struck plumb in front by Brisbane paceman Josh Lalor but somehow got the benefit of the doubt even though replays showed the ball was clearly hitting the stumps and with no DRS in Big Bash, he stood his ground.

Khawaja - who has lost his place in both the Australian test and ODI sides - looked set to make the most of his lucky escape when he belted five of the first 11 balls he faced to the Gabba boundary rope before throwing his wicket away with a rush of blood to the head.
And it was Lalor who got the last laugh when he dug one in short and Khawaja miscued his hook and gave Sam Heazlett the simplest of catches at deep square.
