NEW Zealand captain Brendon McCullum will not play for the Brisbane Heat this season and has been replaced by West Indian limited-overs batsman Lendl Simmons.

McCullum, a three-year signing for the Heat, will be unavailable to play for the Brisbane franchise this summer as he has a heavy schedule of international commitments.

He will play home Tests against Sri Lanka, before readying himself for two return Tests against the Aussies in February.

Simmons, the 30-year-old nephew of West Indies coach Phil Simmons, will replace McCullum for the Heat this summer.

A right-handed top order batsman, he has played 145 T20 games in his career, scoring 4119 runs at a strike-rate of 115.60, and was a member of the 2012 West Indies team that won the World T20 Cup.

Brendon McCullum won’t be playing for the Heat this year.

Simmons and fellow West Indies recruit Samuel Badree will join the Heat in the lead-up to their opening game of the tournament at the Gabba on Saturday, December 19.

That game will feature another Caribbean star in the Melbourne Renegades’ big signing Chris Gayle.
