Fiery exchange between Bumrah and Konstas to end Day One

Cricket fans have been treated to an enthralling first day of the New Year’s Test at the SCG with Australia holding the upper hand over India.

The day commenced with high drama when captain Rohit Sharma was announced as being out of the team with Jasprit Bumrah taking his place.

Bumrah then made the decision to bat first despite overcast conditions and an extremely green wicket.

Australia wasted no time in making the most of the conditions as they tore through the Indian batting order.

Scott Boland was the key man for the Aussies and came agonisingly close to securing a Test hat-trick.

But the day once again threatened to be overshadowed as more snicko drama unfolded with one star sent packing by the faintest of spikes.

After cleaning up their rivals, Australia failed to survive through to stumps losing Usman Khawaja with the final ball of the day.

All eyes now turn to what India can produce with the ball in hand on day two.
