Australia vs India 3rd Test Day 4: ‘Devastated’: Huge injury rocks Australia
Australia has suffered a major blow as it strives to regain the Border-Gavaskar trophy, while India reached a key milestone on day four.
India has frustrated Australia and greatly improved its chances of avoiding defeat after the fourth day of the third Test at the Gabba.
When the home side took its ninth wicket late in the day, it appeared a formality India would be forced to follow-on as it chased Australia’s first innings of 445.
But tailenders Akash Deep (27 not out) and Jasprit Bumrah (10no) had other ideas, smashing an unbeaten 39-run stand to guide India to safety at 9/252.

Still 193 runs behind Australia’s first innings, India celebrated wildly after ensuring it wouldn’t have to turn around and bat straight away in its second dig.
With Australia forced to bat again once it picks up that tenth wicket, and weather causing all sorts of trouble throughout this Test, the home side’s hopes of heading to the Boxing Day Test holding a 2-1 series lead suffered a major setback.
Josh Hazlewood has also been ruled out of this match and the remainder of the series with a calf injury.
Pat Cummins picked up four wickets, but tried in vain to gain that crucial tenth scalp, setting up an intriguing final day on Wednesday.
