Usman Khawaja (97) — 8

Looked totally at ease with his batting in scoring his second 97 of the summer. He should have three 100s.

Steve Smith (165 not out, 3 catches) — 9

Imperious batting took him past 1000 Test runs for the third straight year and his Test average to 60.63 as he led his team to improbable glory.

Peter Handscomb (54, 2 catches) — 7

Continues to look like a natural Test number five with an effortless half century on his home deck. Ripping two short-leg catches too.

Nic Maddinson (22, 2 catches) — 5

Tail was up after a terrific early catch but squandered his chance to cement his spot at number six.

Matthew Wade — (1 catch, 9 runs) — 5

His glovework continues to impress with several diving leg-side saves but he needs runs quick.

Mitchell Starc (1/125, 4/36 & 84) — 8.5

Found searing pace late, just as the Aussies needed it to go through the tail, and his final day slogging set the Aussies on course to victory.

Mitchell Starc was in fine form with both bat and ball.

Josh Hazelwood (3/50 & 2/39) — 7.5

The bowler of the summer for Australia so far and his five wickets didn’t do justice to just how well he performed. Racked up his 100th Test scalp.

Jackson Bird (3/113 & 1/46) — 6

Beat the bat often and shaped the ball too as he showed his worth as a third seamer ready to take on a big workload.

Nathan Lyon (1/115 & 3/33) — 7

Redeemed himself with excellent second innings effort to get the Aussie victory push going having enjoyed the early moment of the Test with his “Nice Garry” wicket on day one.
