IT’S one of Australia’s most notorious night clubs.
A Gold Coast adult playground where celebrities from around the world gather to host lavish parties while punters pay $25 for the privilege of breathing the same air.
The Surfers Paradise nightspot where athletics superstar Usain Bolt partied the night away last night unashamedly boasts of being Australia’s No.1 nightclub and with its star power it’s hard to argue.
Bernard Tomic has been infamously photographed receiving a shirtless lap dance, while everyone from Justin Beiber to Amber Heard to UFC fighters and international reality show stars has been there.
The electronic music pulses with an edgier vibe than you find at other clubs and even the regulars — not put off by the high cover charge in a city where many drinking spots have free entry — are people with cash to splash.
It was once owned by controversial former nightclub king Jamie Pickering, who is still on probation for supplying cocaine to teenage girls in 2014.
The club has also been the scene of several drug raids over the years.
Scantily-clad lingerie waitresses and bar staff serve drinks in the dimly-lit club, in a haze of smoke machine mist and strobe lights while celebs look down on the dance floor from private booths on an upper level that is usually off limits to the common folk.
The club has built a Grade-A reputation with A-list celebs who are able to enjoy private booths and discreet rear entrances.
Attentive VIP hosts cater to the every whim of celebs, who often rack up bills in the thousands of dollars.
Some leave massive tips. Some don’t tip at all.
This week on the Glitter Strip, the nightclub named after another of the Gold Coast’s infamous nicknames has been drawing crowds like bees to honey.
A massive billboard on the side of the M1 has been great publicity for the club, which draws crowds based purely on a name that seems to suggest you’ll rub shoulders with the central characters from Underbelly.
Maybe you will. As one regular told The Courier-Mail this week, “you never know who you might see there”.
