GAMES Confidential was surprised to see Crown executive Mark Arbib wafting around the newly refurbished Star Gold Coast.
A little digging found that Arbib, one of James Packer’s right hand men, is in town in his capacity as an Australian Olympic Committee Executive and President of Athletics Australia.
The former Labor Sports Minister is understood to have been staying at The Star, the major rival to Crown’s casino interests.
Arbib looked to be enjoying the hospitality on offer and no doubt picked up some ideas for Crown’s proposed new Sydney offering.
Meanwhile, James Packer checked himself into the exclusive McLean Hospital in Boston for treatment after stepping down from his gambling empire Crown Resorts.
The 50-year-old son of late media mogul Kerry Packer had previously opened up about his depression following the collapse of his telco company One.Tel in 2001. In an interview, he said: “I was emotionally exhausted. My marriage (to Meares) had broken up. I felt isolated. I felt like a failure. It was not a great time in my life.”
