Tim Tszyu issues social media apology to fans after loss to Sebastian Fundora

Tim Tszyu has brushed off suggestions his fighting career could be over after losing to Sebastian Fundora and issued a public apology to his fans. Watch it here.

Tim Tszyu admits he “crashed and burned” in his devastating defeat to Sebastian Fundora last weekend, but promises to keep fighting and pursuing greatness.

Speaking publicly for the first time since the world title rematch was stopped after the seventh round at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, the 30-year-old apologised to his fans and said the result is just another step on his journey.

Tszyu drove from Las Vegas to Los Angeles a day-and-a-half after the bout, and will return to Australia later in the week.

There has been intense speculation on his future, with his team going to ground, but The Soul Taker promises to keep fighting.

“When I first started this sport, what I said was that I wanted to get to the very, very top and I didn’t mind crashing and burning on the way up,” he said in a video posted to his social media channels.

“Sitting here now, we did crash and burn.

“But we still move forward. Some things go your way, some things don’t.

“What happened last weekend, it didn’t go my way, but we still move forward.”

Tszyu’s corner, management and promoter have come under intense criticism for the Aussie going 1-3 in his last four fights, but the Sydneysider said it’s all part of the journey.

“Sometimes it’s who you become in the pursuit of greatness, rather than the result itself,” he continued.

“Sitting here now I’m proud to say I’ve become a different person in my pursuit of greatness.

“And to anyone watching, no matter what you do, always find the goal of becoming someone different, of becoming motivated.

“It’s never gonna be easy. But it will all pay off. I appreciate everyone’s support.

“Sorry I couldn’t get the victory. He was just the better man, and I’ll have to accept that, even though it’s hard.

“I gave it my all and we move on. The goal doesn’t change.”

Hall of famer Jeff Fenech has been one of Team Tszyu’s fiercest critics since last weekend’s loss.

The Marrickville Mauler gave multiple interviews calling his team “a bunch of clowns” and urging him to find a new trainer.

“He needed help on the weekend and he got none,” he said. “He’s got a corner full of guys who have never had a fight in their lives.

“How can you tell a guy how to fight if you’d never had one?”

Tszyu and Fenech have always gotten on, and Tszyu knows the former four-time world champion only wants the best for him.

But the rest of the team is understood to be furious with the 61-year-old.
