Mundine was befuddled and flummoxed and his 43-year-old legs and chin could not stand up to Horn’s massive left hook that finished the fight.

Mundine had talked up a great game before the fight but in the end, faced with Horn’s relentless pressure and non-stop power, talk was cheap.

The former Brisbane Broncos and St George Dragons flyer simply did not have the zest to keep away from the 30-year-old bulldozer who landed a big body shot at the opening bell to signal his bad intentions.

Mundine said before the fight that he had played rugby league at Suncorp when it was still known as Lang Park and that he felt like he was coming home for the River City Rumble.

The Brisbane crowd had other ideas.

There was only one hometown hero and Horn was given an enormous cheer by the crowd of around 30,000. He didn’t disappoint.

Mundine was booed into the ring by most of the crowd and after 25 years of playing the villain in Australian sport he was finally given a rousing cheer. When he went down.

The huge win can only boost Horn’s already enormous popularity.

"I was expecting a tough fight but I felt really loose at this weight,’’ Horn said.

"I prepared well but he was too good and got me with a great shot. Good luck to Jeff. He was too strong.

"All the smack talk, I had to build the fight. This is an entertainment business. But I’m alright."

At Thursday’s weigh-in Mundine looked gaunt and shrivelled and his balance was non-existent in the ring as he tried to fend off Horn’s attacks.

He fired back with a jab and right hand occasionally but Horn was just too hungry.
