Had you seen a bloke in the Southbank area on Friday, standing around 168cm and carrying a duffel bag, then that would have been former world boxing champion Will Tomlinson bringing $250,000 in $100 bills to the Herald Sun for a photo shoot.
If you are criminally inclined, then your chance for robbery has evaporated given Tomlinson returned the money to his bank the same day after he and boxer Jason Whateley posed for a picture that might help entice the winner of the Barry Hall-Paul Gallen bout to fight Whateley next year.
“That $250,000 is on the table for the winner of Hall and Gallen to fight Jason Whateley on my Wildfighter promotion in Melbourne next March. Jason is a cruiserweight but he will happily fight either Hall or Gallen at heavyweight,” promoter Tomlinson said.
“The offer is genuine and so would the fight be, because while Jason Whateley has far more experience than Hall or Gallen, those two men have prepared for their clash this Friday night at Margaret Court Arena in really impressive fashion.
“Their fight isn’t some sort of celebrity freak show, but a genuine contest between two professional athletes who are very proud and who know what’s required. Barry Hall has some serious speed and boxing skills, but I just think may have too much ring experience for him.”
Whateley will challenge Daniel Russell for the Australian cruiserweight title at the Timber Yard in Port Melbourne as part of Wildfighter Round 4 on December 14.
