Floyd Mayweather emotionally broke down in tears live on stage after being inducted into the boxing Hall of Fame.
Mayweather led three classes being honoured, as the coronavirus pandemic affected the 2020 and 2021 ceremonies, The Sun reports.
The unbeaten 50-0 legend was joined by fellow icons in Wladimir Klitschko, 46, and Andre Ward, 38, as three of last year’s inductees.
Mayweather won every belt in his career, through five divisions, while reigning as the pound-for-pound and pay-per-view king.
But his inclusion into the Hall of Fame left even the self proclaimed “The Best Ever” at a loss for words.
He took several minutes to regain his composure and needed a comforting shoulder from Muhammad Ali’s daughter Laila.
Mayweather, fighting back what he said were “tears of joy”, said: “I said that I wouldn’t cry. This is unbelievable. This is one of the best days of my life.”
“It did not matter how much money they paid me,” Mayweather added. “I would have done it for free. I love the sport of boxing.”
He thanked his 69-year-old father Floyd Sr, who introduced him to boxing as a toddler as well as later coaching and cornering him.
Mayweather said: “I love my dad because without him this wouldn’t be possible for me … there will never be another trainer that’s better than my dad.”
The American won belts from super-featherweight all the way to light-middleweight.
His marquee wins were against the likes of Manny Pacquiao, 43, Oscar De La Hoya, 49, Canelo Alvarez, 31, among many more.
Mayweather officially retired in 2017 after beating UFC superstar Conor McGregor, 33, and surpassing Rocky Marciano’s 49-0 record.
But the man known as “Money” continues to fight in exhibition bouts, most recently in Abu Dhabi against ex-sparring partner Don Moore.
Before that, he faced featherweight kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa, 23, and YouTuber Logan Paul, 27.
Mayweather will return for another cameo in the ring, heading back to Japan, with the fight announced in Las Vegas on Monday.
