Basketball great Lauren Jackson is set to add another chapter to the greatest sporting comeback of the year — and it will have local hoops fans excited.

Lauren Jackson will play for Southside Flyers in the 2022/2023 WNBL season, completing a remarkable comeback to the game for Australia’s greatest basketballer.

Jackson’s return to professional basketball this year following a nine-year absence has been one of the best sport stories of 2022.

The 41-year-old has defied chronic injuries, and Father Time, to regain her fitness and form for one last professional stint.

Jackson has excelled playing for her hometown Albury Wodonga Bandits in the NBL1 competition this season.

Lauren Jackson will play for Southside Flyers in the 2022/223 WNBL season.

The hoops icon’s MVP-calibre form for the Bandits helped her earn a remarkable international recall for the Australian Opals.

Jackson will represent the Opals at this year’s World Cup in Sydney.

The Australian women will aim to go one better after finishing second behind the United States at the 2018 World Cup in Spain.

Jackson may be the Opals’ oldest player, but she has proven with Albury that she is more than capable of starring on the big stage.

It’s why he signature is a major coup for a Southside squad that finished second last in the 2021/2022 WNBL season.

Jackson will provide the Flyers with invaluable experience, knowledge and a world-class aura.

“Obviously I am looking forward to once again playing for the Opals and am now can look beyond Septembers and am excited to be part of the Flyers team,” said Jackson, who last played in the WNBL for the Canberra Capitals in 2016.

Jackson will represent Australia at the World Cup in Sydney in September before returning to the WNBL when the season commences in early November.

The Flyers will play home games at the State Basketball Centre during the upcoming 2022/23 WNBL season and membership will be on sale from Thursday.

Director of the Flyers, Gerry Ryan will make the official Jackson announcement on Wednesday morning at The Prince Hotel in St Kilda, Melbourne.
