Shot clock: Quickfire guide to setting up your SuperCoach NBL team for round 3

Five teams play twice in round 3 of SuperCoach NBL. Which stars do you need in your team – and who should be dumped ASAP? Here’s everything you need to know.

Round 2 of SuperCoach NBL was full of crazy highs and wild lows – and we’re only talking about Jack White.

The Melbourne United star had zero points at three-quarter time of his first game of the round, then rattled off 71 in the next five quarters to register one of the biggest scores of the weekend.

Now attention turns to round 3 and some big selection calls. Every coach has two trades – three with a Trade Boost – and unlimited substitutions to get their SuperCoach NBL squad ready to fire for next weekend.

Here’s a quickfire guide to everything you need to know.

ON THE DOUBLE

The schedule is the key to SuperCoach NBL success. Targeting players from teams that play twice in a round will give you twice as many opportunities to score points.

In round 3 Melbourne United has another double and is joined by four other teams – Adelaide 36ers, Cairns Taipans, Perth Wildcats and Tasmania JackJumpers.

Keep Adelaide and Cairns players at the front of your thinking – they have back-to-back doubles in rounds 3 and 4.

Note the NZ Breakers have a bye the next two rounds.

Players from United, Phoenix, Sydney and Illawarra had their first price change after Sunday night’s lockout following their third game (a single in round 1 and double games in round 2). The rest of the comp will have their first price move after their next game, so now is the time to pounce – or jump off – before big changes in value.

For example, Taipans guard Jonah Antonio is set for a big price spike after scoring 13 and 23 in the first two rounds. Priced at just $76,000, he makes an ideal bench downgrade to free up cash to grab some big-money scorers on court. South East Melbourne’s Derrick Walton Jr, on the other hand, is projected to lose more than $27,000 after his next game, so trade him out quick!

Any player on a single this round can be traded out to get five starters on court on the double, but try to hold the best cash cows on the bench if they still have money to make. Players in this category include Lachie Olbrich (ILL) and Keli Leaupepe (SYD), while popular cheapie Ben Henshall should return this week (and get his first price rise) after missing the Wildcats game with illness.

CAPTAIN CALL

No shortage of choices with five teams with a double-game round.

If you can afford Bryce Cotton he’s always a go-to captain, while Tasmania’s Will Magnay is another great option after smashing out 56 points in his one game in round 2 – more than some bigger names who played twice.
