Patty Mills and wife Alyssa have announced their baby joy, as NBL speculation continues to bubble

Australian NBA and Boomers star Patty Mills and his wife Alyssa have announced their baby joy to the world, adding further speculation to his potential NBL homecoming.

Australian Boomers star Patty Mills and his wife, Alyssa, have announced that they are expecting their first child in August,

The couple shared to social media that they will be having a baby girl after keeping the pregnancy news quiet to the public until Mills’ NBA season commitments wrapped.

Mills, 36, has been the topic of conversation throughout the NBL’s free agency period, with the Brisbane Bullets reportedly leading conversations with the NBA veteran’s management to bring him home to the NBL for the 2025-26 season.

However, with Mills’ wife Alyssa, 34, a Californian native, that may deter Mills from delivering the fairytale NBL homecoming call.

A five-time Olympian, Mills is famously from Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander descent, and the two have shared that they would like their first child to grow up with that same cultural and islander lifestyle.

“Everything that I got taught as a young boy growing up in the Torres Strait, whether it was dancing or songs or making stuff in the kitchen, Alyssa has been taught by all the aunties, has been handed down to her,” Mills told Sports Illustrated.

“An island way of life is very much a part of her life now.

“We’re gonna raise our daughter [in] the same way. I think that’s probably the coolest part about this whole journey.”

The Islander lifestyle for the soon to be family of three may point to a return to Australia for Mills - who calls far north Queensland home - but only time will tell as to where the power couple choose to raise their family, and therefore the future of Mills’ basketball playing career.
